Whether you watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day in IMAX or waited for Main Vaapas Aaunga to hit Netflix, there was no shortage of options. Here is everything that happened and everything arriving this week.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Rewrites the Box Office Record Books
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened to $360 million in North America over the weekend, surpassing Avengers: Endgame's previous domestic opening record of $357.1 million set in 2019, according to Deadline. Globally, the film collected $932 million, making it the second-biggest worldwide debut ever behind Endgame's $1.22 billion.
The film shattered multiple individual records along the way. Thursday previews grossed $72 million, beating Endgame's previous preview record of $60 million (Deadline). Friday, including previews, reached $169.8 million, the highest single day in domestic box office history. Saturday added $101.5 million, the second-best Saturday ever, and Sunday contributed $88.7 million, also the second-best Sunday on record (Deadline).
For Sony Pictures, it is the biggest domestic and global opening the studio has ever achieved, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home's $260.1 million domestic and $600.5 million worldwide debuts (Variety). The combined weekend frame, boosted by The Odyssey's $51 million in its third week, powered the largest collective weekend at the domestic box office, as reported by CNBC.
The film is now on track to become the fourth billion-dollar movie of 2026, joining Toy Story 5, Michael, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (CNBC). In India, Brand New Day continues its theatrical run across multiple languages and premium formats, including IMAX.
